"''You Can Depend on Me''" is a song written by Charles Carpenter, Louis Dunlap and Earl "Fatha" Hines and performed by several people including Louis Armstrong (1931〔Louis Armstrong and His Orchestra, ; recorded November 5, 1931, and released as 10" 78 rpm Shellac on Columbia Records.〕 and 1951), Count Basie (1939〔Count Basie and His Orchestra, , with Lester Young and James Rushing, released as 10" 78 rpm Shellac by Decca Records.〕), Earl Hines himself (1940), Nat King Cole (1957) and by Brenda Lee (1961). In 1962 it was featured on Lee's album ''Brenda, That's All''.〔(Allmusic ) album info〕 Lee's "You Can Depend on Me" reached #6 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart in 1961.〔(Allmusic ) chart history〕 It is not the song of the same name, "(You Can) Depend on Me," recorded by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles in 1959.
